This Oakland Indian wedding is what photographer dreams are made of. First of all, Katya and Sanjay are two of my favorites. In 2009, Katya’s older sister Sri’s wedding to Justin was the first wedding I ever photographed under my own name. It wasn’t my first wedding as I had done tons of assisting, but it was the first time I was ever trusted by myself. Coming back to photograph Katya’s wedding was everything full circle, so much happiness, good to see the same family members, meet Justin & Sri’s new baby, and more. I also realize now that this family throws a wedding unlike any I’ve ever seen, even more insane and fully committed to all the traditions (their parents) than other Indian weddings I’ve photographed since and it made for a somewhat “baptized by fire” experience, looking back. haha. It was insane and so magic and so beautiful, that day and this day.
Katya, Sanjay, it was such a pleasure and an honor to photograph your day. I love the foggy morning ceremony, the ceremony in the redwoods overlooking the bay, the toasts and tears and dinner after the fact. Maybe my favorite part is seeing you two look at each other and say, “Do you know if we are married yet?” Who knows when exactly it happened, but you’re married now and you’re both wonderful. Love you! xx
