Rachel and Jans’ Scotts Valley wedding was so. much. fun. These two are the cutest and it’s just sooo clear in every moment of the day how much they enjoy each other’s company. Their family and friends were the sweetest and this entire day was filled with happy tears, laughter, jokes, wonderful traditions & toasts, and a really good dance party.
Some of my favorite things:
Rachel wore her mom’s wedding dress, modified for the times (she removed some puffy sleeves, so cute), and her mom’s flower crown. The silver belt was her own addition & the entire ensemble looked like a dream on her. Watching Rachel’s mom help her in to the dress she wore on her wedding was such a sweet and memorable moment. No dry eyes.
They got married on a friend’s private estate, in the redwoods. They knew they wanted to have their ceremony in the redwoods & their friend’s property, where Rachel’s brother also got married, had just the grove.
Jans is Norwegian (he and Rachel met when he was studying abroad at Cal) and he wore traditional finery handmade in Norway and passed down in his family for the wedding ceremony. It was a liiiittle warm for the circumstances, but it was so good to see traditions alive.
There’s a tradition in Norway where you describe the meal you just ate and then thank the chefs who made it. Probably one of my favorite things to see at a wedding; it was so sweet to invite the kitchen staff out and have all the guests appreciate for a moment how great the dinner was.
When everybody clinked glasses, these two had to stand on their chairs to kiss (instead of just sitting). It only happened twice, but dammit it was so cute.
Rachel and her Dad had a second first dance where they invited everybody to join them and mosh to an ACDC song. After the sweet first dances, this was such a fun way to kick of a real dance party. So good.
