A Starry Proposal in Mendocino
This gorgeous starry proposal in Mendocino was one of the most romantic evenings I’ve ever witnessed: Truly a beautiful and unique way to propose!
A knew that he wanted to surprise V with a proposal on 1/17/2020 at 1:17am, so we got to work making a plan that would make this surprise starry proposal happen.
In the end, what made the most sense was to meet and “randomly” become friends: I “happened” to be out on the coast taking photos when they walked out to watch the sunset. It had been raining on and off this day and I was nervous we’d get rained out for this meeting. Lucky us, we had a few sprinkles and then the first stage of this starry proposal went off without a hitch!
We chatted, then I asked them if they’d be willing to pose for a few photos as I am trying to build my photo portfolio ;) V was super amenable to the idea and, as cute as they are, we captured some stunning sunset couples photos in the stunning sunshine. We exchanged contact info so that I could send them the photos (all part of the story!) and then I asked them if there was any chance they might want to come out for starry photos in the evening. I’d be out taking landscape photos and they’d be so cute in them to give the stars some scale.
They said they might be interested and we went from there! A few messages back and forth, I let them know where I was (the starry landscape spot I’d picked with A ahead of time!) and while I was messaging V, I was also messaging A to get a sense of where they were and what was going on. They ended up heading out for some star gazing and it went off without a hitch.
I posed them, got them all set up, and said out loud, “Wow, what a once-in-a-lifetime view!” It really was, but even more than that, this was our queue! :)
A took his time and it was perfect: He got down on one knee, read V a poem he had written for her, and then asked her to marry him at exactly 1:17am. So auspicious and perfect: It truly was the perfect starry proposal!
V was totally surprised, A was stoked that everything went off without a hitch, and they had some stunningly gorgeous photos to bask in it all. It was absolutely lovely and one of my favorite proposals of all time!
