Red Autumn Scarf Knitting Pattern
Like I said, I’m in a scarf mood.
Let me warn you: scarf moods are catchy.
When I started Instagramming photos of my knitting projects (yes, I just admitted to that… follow along at @simone_anne ), Sam’s little sister requested her own for this winter. I’m loving this circle scarf in red. The slight variations in color are interesting and the red adds a nice pop of color – the perfect thing to complement fall colors or add a pop of bright color to a winter outfit! :)
Knit this up in a jiffy… and let me know how it goes! :D
Cheers – Simone
How to Make This Classy Red Scarf:
Yarn – Debbie Bliss SoHo yarn in red. 100% wool. 1-2 skeins. (I used one and a half)
Needles – Size 10.5 (US)
Recipe – 25 stitches wide. Knit stitch all the way. Takes one and a half skeins, approximately, but knit to your desired length. Twist twice and knit together the first and last rows, tying off as you go. I’ve posted some more tips on how to do this at the bottom of these directions.

I have been crocheting a cowl – but think I will rip it out and get back to knitting – I like this better than the one I am crocheting – I really like knitting better than crochet so this cowl will be fun to work on!!! Have been knitting since 8 years old – mother taught – along with crochet – oohh sooo many years ago!!
I love it! Knitting is so therapeutic! Glad you’re having fun. :)

Hello. I am a beginner and I was wondering where I could find a tutorial about actually making it a circle. The part after the twist where you “knit together the first and last rows.” Thanks :) this project seems really fun and id like to make one for a friend
Hey Skye! Great to hear from you. So glad you’re attempting this one – it’s a good scarf for a beginner… and also for somebody to wear. I still love this one! :)
I wish I had a better tutorial, but unfortunately I don’t. That being said, if you want a bit of help, I’d love to jump on a skype call with you! Let me know if that’s too weird (I think it’s chill) or if you’d like to! My email is [email protected] – you can drop me a line and we can say hi! :)
Otherwise, good luck! :)

I needed a photo of this cowl, not of your hair, in order to make a decision for a cowl gift.
Hi! This is a photography blog, not a knitting blog or gift blog or DIY blog. While sometimes I like to share projects I’m working on or food I make, the primary reason I share on this site is because of the photographs. Sorry it doesn’t suit your needs & good luck with your gift.
Thanks for sharing your red autumn scarf. It is beautiful and perfect for the autumn season. Circle scarf is perfect for all season.
You betcha! Enjoy! :)
Making this with Lion Brand Hometown USA El Paso Autumn and then will do one in a fuzzy cherry red yarn. Will send pics when they are done. Great pattern–thanks for sharing!
Aww, YAY! I am SO happy to hear it. Send a pic if you get the chance – I love featuring them on my FB page! xx
Thank you so much for getting back to me. Now it makes sense. Will go get some wool and start knitting. Thanks again,
You are very welcome, Eileen! By the way, Michaels had really cheap yarn the other day when I was there!
Just checking as I want to try this. The instruction says twist twice but in the follow up it seems like you say once??? Thanks
Hi Eilieen! One fill twist of the scarf in looks takes two turns of the scarf when you’re making it (two flips = one twist). Really though, the scarf is very easy & forgiving. I recommend just twisting a couple times & holding it up to your neck before you make it so that you can see if you like it better with more or less twists before you complete the final twist & sew them together. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the pattern.
You are very welcome, Elizabeth! :)
Okay – that was easy! Thanks Much!
You are so very welcome! I hope you love your scarf! Send a picture if you make it! :)
I’m loving your red and silky soft orange twisted cowls. I am a beginner, this looks super easy, but not sure about the twist on the last two rows? Can you provide more detail.
Thanks a bunch!
Hi Brenda! Great question! :) I promise it’s pretty simple & not in that its-easy-for-me-but-hard-for-you kind of annoying way. When your scarf is as long as you want it to be, lay it flat on the table. Hold one end down & flip the other end over, so that there’s a fold in the middle, but both ends are still where they were when you started. Then bring the two ends together & as you tie off your scarf, incorporate the stitches from the beginning into it.I should make a video because it sounds much more complicated in writing that it is in person! haha. IF this still seems like too much for you, what I recommend doing is just finishing your scarf off normally & then using a huge needle & some leftover yarn to sew the two ends together (with a twist in the middle). I really hope that helps! Good luck & have fun experimenting with your knitting!! xx
About how long would I make this??
Hi Susan! I used the entire skein, but don’t remember how many rows that was. I’d just test it out as you go – it’s bound to be different for different people. :)

This one says 25 inches wide but the first set of instructions says 25 stitches wide. I’m guessing it’s ‘stitches’. :)
Whoops! Sorry about that! Thanks for catching it; I’ll go ahead and change it now :) Cheers!
